Washington Irving is given the credit for providing the first American version of Santa Claus to the United States. He took the Dutch legion of Saint Nicholas. Where he told the Dutch version of in English, telling how St. Knickerbocker would come to the house of children on the eve of St. Nicholas. As the first snow of the winter season began to fall, little Cyndi Loo Hoo sat and stared out the window starry-eyed. The pronunciation varies from country to country, but many of the versions throughout Europe and America are a version of “Saint Nicholas” or “Father Christmas.” The name Saint Nicholas refers to an actual man who reportedly died around 350 A.D. and who is the official patron saint of giving. Due to his popularity, Saint Nicholas has also been the patron saint of Russia, Greece, children, sailors, pawnbrokers and shopkeepers. Our daughter was always kind of a slow mover when she was little. She was the happiest little child upon growing up. She began school at age four and a half so at age five and a half, I remember my husband and I going to her first grade “parents night” and the teacher coming to us and saying as I was holding one of her papers, “Now, don’t you make her do any work at home, you just let her be, let her play and she will be fine.” I can remember how she looked up at us with such pride in her eyes. It started off very basic in the beginning years but gradually became more complex as the children got older.
